Organic Chickens & Eggs
All our chickens and eggs come from Stream Farm.
The chickens live at the top of the hill surrounded by stunning views across the Quantock Hills and they run freely in and out of their spacious sheds onto the surrounding grass, in groups of not more than 250. They are shut up at night to protect them from predators.
The hens, a mix of breeds, including White Leghorns, Black Rocks, Boven Browns and Columbian Blacktails, live in the organic apple orchard fertilising the trees and enjoying the windfall apples in the autumn! They produce an array of colour and size eggs, with many double yolkers.
Organic Devonshire Gold Chicken
The chickens live at the top of the hill surrounded by stunning views across the Quantock Hills.
The 2kg weight is approximate (they range in size from 1.7kg to 2.5kg usually) and we will adjust your bill with the exact figure after delivery.
Organic Old Laying Hens
From time to time the older, organic egg-laying hens from Stream Farm reach the end of their very happy lives in the apple orchard.
They have provided many of you with delicious eggs over the years and now can provide you with delicious sustenance if slow-cooked as a coq-au-vin or, as have customers have suggested before, traditional Colombian sancocho, Jewish chicken soup, or Japanese ramen!
Organic Pullet eggs - 1/2 dozen
These eggs are laid by the young hens (called pullets) and are smaller than the usual eggs. The yolks tend to be similar in size to normal eggs, but there is less white. So for baking, use 3 pullet eggs instead of 2 normal.
